West End Live! Presents: The Music of Duke Ellington Saturday, May 11 @ 2:00 p.m.

Perhaps you already know that in late April 1899, Edward Kennedy "Duke" Ellington was born at 2129 Ward Place  - in the West End Neighborhood of Washington, DC.

In commemoration of the 125th anniversary of Duke Ellington's birth, the West End Neighborhood Library and The Charles Funn Quintet have prepared a live jazz performance for the community. The Quintet will celebrate Ellington's extraordinary talent while also paying tribute to his profound influence on the world of jazz.

Make plans to be in the audience on, Saturday, May 11, 2024 from 2:00 pm to 3:30.  This concert promises to bring an afternoon of elegant melodies and soulful rhythms, transporting concertgoers to the times of this iconic jazz composer.

Through a combination of insightful commentary and thrilling music, renowned Baltimore educator and musician Charles Funn and the Funn Band will deliver a captivating performance. This performance will feature the timeless classics of Duke Ellington and his co-writer Billy Strayhorn. Mr. Funn is no stranger to star-power in the world of music, having played with Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Clark Terry, and The Temptations.
